Sustainable development and biodiversity conservation in Rarau-Giumalau

The project aimed:
A. To carry out a scientific study of the biodiversity from Rarau–Giumalau with the view of filling in the existent database and the standard fiche for Nature2000 network, underlying the importance of the area and the necessity to be protected and preserved accordingly to the European Directives Birds and Habitats.
B. To create premises for the sustainable development of the community from Câmpulung Moldovenesc, a community situated in the proximity of the reservations from Rarau-Giumalau, by encouraging the practice of eco–tourism.
Results:
- an inventory of flora and fauna species in Rarau-Giumalau Mountains was made;
- the inventory helped preparing the documentation needed to propose Rarau-Giumalau Mountains to be included in Natura2000 protected areas;
- 50 people are qualified in the profession of tourism worker;
- 50 km of equestrian paths marked properly with terminals;
- 1 shatter built for horses-a necessary piece of infrastructure aiming to sustain equestrian tourism;
- 1 "Tourism Newsletter" edited;
- 1 reportage entitled "Rediscovering the natural, cultural and traditional values";
- 300 CDs with info materials about the region;
- 2 Events organised in the region: "European Bat Night", "Birds Festival";
